Source Items
The source items provided here consist of a sampling of period newspaper articles, commemorative books created by parishes and organizations for notable anniversaries (which often contain photographs and/or historical accounts), and some non-newspaper primary source documents. It also includes historical photographs extracted from those materials. It is meant to be illustrative and is certainly not exhaustive. In particular, it is currently very thin on newspaper sources from the Ukrainian-language press in the United States at the time.
We have also compiled a more general bibliography, many item of which are cited in the historical overview and community overviews.
The source content can be browsed here, on a timeline, on a map, or searched by keyword, location, subject, or other metadata facet. Items such as newspaper articles that are now out-of-copyright are provided as page images in their entirety. For articles that are still under copyright, we provide the headline and the lead paragraph or another relevant text excerpt.
