On March 26, the UkrHEC and the Franklin Township Library co-sponsored a lecture and demonstration by New York pysanka master Sofika Zielyk for a predominantly non-Ukrainian audience. Illustrating her talk with images of her own pysanky as well as historical drawings of ancient pysanka designs, she gave a fascinating presentation about the pagan symbolism of pysanka designs and their adaptation after the coming of Christianity.
She then gave a live demonstration of how pysanky are made, showing how one applies wax and dyes step-by-step.
