Biographical / Historical

Fr. Dmytro Martin Telenson (Дмитро Мартин Теленсон, original family name Telencio/Теленцьо) was a priest in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA who served the parishes of Jeanette and Export, Pennsylvania from the late 1950s. He was born in 1917 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania (then an unincorporated area of Butler) to "first wave" immigrants from the Austro-Hungarian province of Galicia. He graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. He attended Moravian Theological Seminary for two semesters and Penn State University, where he obtained a Masters degree in special education. He was ordained to the deaconate by Metropolitan Ioan (Teodorovych) in 1957 and to the priesthood by Archibishop Mstyslav (Skrypnyk) in 1958. He played a key role in the early youth ministry efforts of the UOC of USA, having served as national spiritual advisor for the Junior Ukrainian Orthodox League and member of the Church's Educational Commission. He served as chaplain of the annual Teenage Conferences at Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Fombell, Pennsylvania. He died in July 1995.
