Carol of the Bells: неймовірна історія української колядки, що стала американською | The Ukrainian Carol that became American

How did the Mykola Leontovych's setting of the Ukrainian winter song "Shchedryk" end up in America? How did it end up becoming the "Carol of the Bells"? This talk (in Ukrainian) by Fulbright Scholar Tina Peresunko will answer these questions, as well as provide answers to these questions and more about the work of the Ukrainian Republic Capella and the Ukrainian National Chorus as cultural diplomats for Ukraine.

В основі доповіді Тіни Пересунько відповіді на питання задані вище, а також ширша презентація історії світових гастролей хору Олександра Кошиця, який упродовж 1919-1924 років гастролював в 17 країнах Західної Європи, Північної й Південної Америки, презентуючи за кордоном українську музичну культуру та ідею незалежної України. Під час своєї доповіді Тіна Пересунько представить своє ослідження та унікальні документальні знахідки з архівних фондів України, Чехії, Канади й США, зокрема досі невідомі аудіо-записи та відео з концертів хору Олександра Кошиця.

За фахом Тіна Пересунько є магістром міжнародного маркетингу та реклами (в галузі культури та мистецтв). 2018 року закінчила аспірантуру Інституту української археографії та джерелознавства ім. М. С. Грушевського НАН України, де тепер працює науковою співробітницею відділу новітньої історії України. Упродовж останніх п’яти років досліджує історію світових гастролей хору Олександра Кошиця, як інструменту політики культурної дипломатії Української Народної Республіки. 2018 року упорядкувала й видала збірник архівних документів «Світовий тріумф «Щедрика» - 100 років культурної дипломатії України» та однойменну мандрівну виставку, які експонувалися у стінах Верховної Ради України, Кабінету Міністрів, МЗС та в інших закладах України. 2019 року видала книгу «Культурна дипломатія Симона Петлюри: «Щедрик» проти «русского мира». Місія капели Олександра Кошиця (1919-1924)», що здобула національну відзнаку «Книжка Року-2019». Упродовж 2021 року перебуває з дослідницьким візитом у Нью-Йорку. Як стипендіатка Програми ім. Фулбрайта досліджує історію американських гастролей хору Олександра Кошиця (1922-1924 рр.), прем’єри у США «Щедрика» Миколи Леонтовича та його музичного перевтілення на англомовну колядку «Carol of the Bells».

In her presentation, Tina Peresunko will present her research and unique documents from archives in Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Canada and the United States, including hitherto unknown audio recordings and videos from concerts by the Oleksandr Koshyts Choir.

Tina Peresunko has a master's degree in international marketing and advertising in the field of culture and arts. In 2018 she graduated from the Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where she now works as a researcher at the Department of Modern History of Ukraine. For the past five years, he has been researching the history of the world tour of the Oleksandr Koshyts Choir as a means of cultural diplomacy of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. In 2018, she organized and published "Shchedryk's World Triumph - 100 Years of Cultural Diplomacy of Ukraine", a collection of archival documents and traveling exhibition, which appeared in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions in Ukraine. In 2019 she published the book "Cultural Diplomacy of Simon Petliura: 'Shchedryk' against the 'Russian World' and the mission of the Alexander Koshyts choir (1919-1924)", which won the national "Book of the Year 2019" award. During 2021 she has been a Fulbright Scholar based in New York researching the history of the American tour of the Koshyts choir (1922-1924), the U. S. premiere of "Shchedryk" by Mykola Leontovych, and its transformation into the "Carol of the Bells".
