Virtual Lemko "Drop-Pull" Pysanka Demonstration (Folk Arts @ UHEC)

Join the UHEC for a virtual pysanka making demonstration where workshop participants will learn and make a Ukrainian pysanka using the drop-pull method traditionally used in the Lemko region, with step by step instruction by guest instructor Marko Lyszyk. Participants must purchase their own supplies in advanced.

During the period of Lent preceding Pascha, or Easter, Ukrainians write pysanky, or decorate eggs, using ancient symbols. From the deep past, these patterns were thought to imbue the egg with magical powers and ward away evil spirits, and they later took on Christian meanings. Join the UHEC for a virtual pysanka making demonstration where workshop participants will learn and make a Ukrainian pysanka using the drop-pull method traditionally used in the Lemko region, with step by step instruction by guest instructor Marko Lyszyk.
