Crafts for Kids with the UHEC: Hutsul Painted Plate (Virtual)

The Hutsul people lived in the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine (also known as Hutsulschyna). Centers of artistic craftsmanship developed in places such as Kosiv and Kolomiya in Western Ukraine. They were known for various styles of folk art, including painted ceramic objects which were painted in the distinct brown-green-yellow color scheme.

In this workshop, young artists will learn about this painting style of the Hutsul people and recreate their own painted decorative plate.   

You must provide your own supplies for this workshop.

Suitable for grade school aged children. Seating is limited to 25 participants.

Supplies list:

• Styrofoam or Paper Plate (not glossy)-dinner plate size
• Pencil
• Permanent Marker
• Acrylic Paint (Brown, Yellow, Green, White/Cream)
• Paint Brushes (small and medium sizes)
• Water (to rinse brushes)
• Paper Towels
• Protected Workspace
