Ukrainian religious history can indeed be confusing, with various Orthodox and Greek Catholic jurisdictions, not to mention Roman Catholics, Protestants, Jews, and other minority religions.

In The Legacy of the Kyivan Church: An Introduction to Ukrainian Church History and Records, Justin will present an overview of the history of Christianity in Ukraine, starting from the official conversion of St. Volodymyr the Great in 988, through the creation of the Greek Catholic Church in the Union of Brest of 1595-96, to the tumultuous 20th century and recent events regarding the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. He will connect this historical context to the various types of church records that you may come across in your genealogical research.
