Pysanky
In addition to embroidery, Ukraine is also particularly known for its distinctive decorated eggs (pysanky, sing. pysanka). Made using a batik wax-resist method, these designs have their roots in pre-Christian times but have become associated with the Easter holiday. We have examples of pysanky made in the second half of the 20th century, as well as drawings and watercolors of pysanka designs from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
