The Archival Division of the Ukrainian Historical and Educational Center, under the direction of archivist Michael Andrec, is a repository for a diverse group of collections of historical significance. These include personal papers of individuals (both well-known and "ordinary"), records of Ukrainian churches and religious organizations, ephemera collections, and records of genealogical interest.
The collection is particularly strong in the history of Ukrainian Orthodoxy during World War II and in post-war exile and the post-war refugee experience.
The Archives are actively seeking to expand their collection. We are particularly concerned about the loss of historical memory that occurs when documents, letters, photographs and other materials are discarded by individuals or their families in an overzealous attempt to "get rid of trash" that "nobody will be interested in", particularly if they're written in a funny alphabet that nobody can read. Well, we're interested! It is exactly these collections of "ordinary" papers of "ordinary" people that give context to history! Please contact archivist Michael Andrec at archives@ukrhec.org to discuss whether your or your family's papers might fit within our collecting scope.
